A Single Soul

A soul, A single soul, trapped in darkness.
How long has he been there?
Why is his face stained with tears?
No one wonders why, no one extends a hand.

The soul learned to survive on his own,
He learned that reaching out would only cause pain.
Eternally alone, he was satisfied with who he was,
But, he always felt empty, the darkness always consumed him.

After residing painfully alone, forced to suffer and watch suffering.
Inevitably, the soul reached out to others in the darkness.
One by one, he saved and helped those around him.
Yet, he himself, still hurt, alone and tormented.

Finally after many years, the soul was finally about to give up.
He had nothing, wanted nothing, needed nothing.
The soul, was nothing.
After giving in, nothing was left to keep, so he thought.

However, as the soul fell, a figured appeared in the dark.
Another harmed soul, also looking for something worth keeping.
The second soul ran to catch the first.
Saving him from the cold, swallowing earth.

In that instance some of the darkness faded,
Giving way to a soft light
The two souls, both beaten and hurt, started to glow.
A soft, kind glow, hearts started to unlock,coming alive again.
